Lifting the curtain on the Jeep Grand Wagoneer - Automotive News (blog)

Fiat Chrysler is inviting thousands of its dealers and their top managers to Las Vegas in August for a very special peep show. For dealers, it promises to be special because the star of the show won’t be a “who” but a “what”: the resurrected Jeep Grand Wagoneer. According to dealers on the invite list, Jeep’s three-row luxury SUV will make its behind-the-scenes debut during FCA’s dealer announcement meeting on August 25. But when it debuts, the Grand Wagoneer will follow in the tracks of the now... When the 200 was first shown to wolf-eyed dealers at the 2013 dealer preview, it drew a rousing standing ovation, according to people who were in the room at the time. For example, on May 19, Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne told reporters that the Grand Wagoneer should share a common platform with the next generation of the two-row Jeep Grand Cherokee. That means that when it returns for the first time since 1991, the Grand Wagoneer will be a unibody vehicle, and not a body-on-frame, truck-based SUV like the Chevrolet Suburban or Cadillac Escalade. In terms of exterior styling, the smart money says the Grand Wagoneer will sport a modern take on the ’70s-style Jeep Cherokee. Source: www.autonews.com

1963 Jeep Wagoneer Custom - Backward Glances - Four Wheeler Network

When the Wagoneer debuted in November 1962 as a ’63 model, it could truly be credited as moving Jeep to the head of the class in the passenger 4x4 utility world. What set the Wagoneer apart in those early days was car-like comfort combined with off-highway ability. The ’63 Wagoneer sat on a 110-inch wheelbase and was offered in both two- and four-door styles and in two- or four-wheel drive. Trim levels varied from a base model suitable for the go-to-work types, to the Custom level that turned it into the equivalent of a middle-trim-level station wagon. In 1965, the Wagoneer would burst forth into the luxury realm, and with the intro of the Super Wagoneer, it would become the world’s first high-end luxury 4x4. What helped sell the Wagoneer with the mainstream public was its low stance and... Though a V-8 was on the company’s mind, Jeep didn’t have one readily available, and the Wagoneer debuted with a six-cylinder: the 230ci OHC Tornado. It was the first production overhead cam engine in an American light truck or SUV and one of the first OHC engines offered by an American manufacturer. Source: www.fourwheeler.com

I cast my gaze to the right, where this one-way street’s traffic was approaching from and there it was…a real precious gem of a Jeep. Longtime readers, family and friends, will all know that I have something of a Jeep problem, so this gem was going to be a hit with me no matter what. Along with being a Jeep, this was also a rather rare vintage Jeep that many consider to be one of the toughest vehicles to carry the name. As if that wasn’t enough, this Jeep also has the distinction of being a machine produced for the military, much like its ancestor, the original Jeep that helped win World War II. The vehicle in question parked right there on the street was a Jeep... At the time of its manufacture, Jeep was owned by Kaiser Industries and was known as Kaiser-Jeep Corporation. Kaiser and Jeep were no strangers to government contracts and the M-715 was the product of one of those contracts for a truck to replace the aging M-37 truck built by Dodge. To make an M-715 out of a Jeep Gladiator took a bit of work and the addition or substitution of a number of parts for more robust pieces. Source: www.examiner.com
