Student managers are link in CCISD championship athletic program - Killeen Daily Herald
“Because of our student managers, we are able to get more ‘reps’ than other teams. The managers spot and retrieve the balls quicker so we get in 15-20 (repeat plays) more than other teams,” Jones said. Student managers are required to arrive at 6:30 each morning and set up the field, laying out the equipment and balls for the coaches. Dylan joined the program in the summer of his eighth-grade year and said he most enjoys getting to know the players, helping the team and learning new things. It is difficult to do it in a fast amount of time and it is never ending,” the honor roll student said. “My favorite thing on the job is getting to hang out with all of the football players and coaches and be part of the team. Fellow ninth-grader Hunter Schildt has been in the program for three months and agreed laundry duty is the task he dislikes the most as a student manager. “I get to hang out with cool, funny people and they make me feel part of the team,” he said. Matthew Welch, 9, is the youngest of the student managers, and football runs in his blood. “At the games, I actually get to wear a vest and everything as the equipment manager,” he said. Dakota Schmidt, 14, said the student manager program is a way for him to continue his involvement in sports. Source: kdhnews.com
