VW Motorsport's Golf TCR set for customer racing - Mackay Daily Mercury

Its Polo R WRC racer won both the Drivers' and Constructors' titles in the World Rally Championship in 2013 and 2014 (and is dominating 2015), while its Touareg SUVs (heavily modified, of course) won three straight Dakar Rallies before that. Now it has developed a rather tasty looking Golf for the race track, built to new Touringcar Racer International Series (TCR) regulations and aimed at customer racing for 2016. The Volkswagen Motorsport-developed car is based on the production Mk7... Unlike the all-wheel-drive Golf R, the race car delivers the power to its front wheels only, via a six-speed DSG gearbox. The race cars come with 18-inch wheels, a chassis 40cm wider than a production Golf and an aero package, including front splitter and carbon rear wing. Source: www.dailymercury.com.au
