Two seriously injured after car crashes into tree - W*USA 9

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WUSA9) -- Two people were seriously injured Friday evening after a car crashed into a tree in Ellicott City. According to Howard County police, Matthew Shaffer, 36, of Ellicott City and Leslie Kuehne, 35, of Woodstock were traveling northbound on Centennial Lane in Ellicott City in a 2000 Acura 3. 2TL driven by Shaffer. As the car approached Burnside Drive, police say it failed to negotiate a turn and went off the roadway, hitting a tree. Shaffer and Kuehne were both transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Shaffer is listed in critical condition and Kuehne was listed in serious but stable condition. A witness told police that the vehicle was driving erratically just prior to the collision. Police say they are investigating the possibility that the driver was under the influence at the time of the crash. Source: www.wusa9.com
