USC's Pharoh Cooper selected preseason All-SEC at three positions - Charleston Post Courier

Friday, call Gamecocks star Pharoh Cooper preseason All-SEC at three different positions. Befitting one of the more versatile players in college football, the USC junior was selected second-team wide receiver, first-team all-purpose, and second-team return specialist in voting conduced at SEC Media Days. Cooper was one of three USC players selected to one of the three teams, along with offensive lineman Brandon Shell and kicker Elliott Fry. Cooper led USC last year with 69 catches for 1,136 yards, finishing second in the league behind Heisman Trophy finalist Amari Cooper in average receiving yards per game. But he was edged out for first-team receiver honors Friday by D’haquille Williams of Auburn and Laquon Treadwell of Ole Miss. Among second-team selections, only Alabama running back Derrick Henry received more votes than Cooper, who has also excelled at rushing the ball, returning kicks, and running out of the quarterback position. The defending SEC champion Crimson Tide had the most first-team selections, with six. South Carolina had no players selected to any of the three teams on defense, which proved the Gamecocks’ largest area of concern in last season’s 7-6 campaign. Source: www.postandcourier.com
