Counted out after back-to-back overtime losses at home, the South Carolina Stingrays faced elimination Wednesday night and came up with arguably their best performance of the season. Joe Devin scored two goals and Jeff Jakaitis stopped 30 shots to lead South Carolina past Allen, 4-1, in Game 6 of the Kelly Cup Finals before a crowd of 4,078 at the North Charleston Coliseum. A decisive Game 7 will be Sunday at 5 p. m. , at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas. It will be the second time in franchise history the Stingrays have played in a Game 7 in the Kelly Cup Finals. The Stingrays will be going for their league-record fourth Kelly Cup title having won in 1997, 2001 and 2009. After Tuesday night’s... From the drop of the opening puck, the Stingrays used their speed and forecheck to force the Americans into turnovers and create scoring chances. “We had two crushing defeats in overtime at home and with our backs up against the wall, we came out and played an awesome game. I couldn’t be prouder of way we responded and forced a Game 7 in their building,” said Stingrays coach Spencer Carbery.
