The first 2016 Audi TT coupe to touch down at a Lowcountry car dealership appeared a few weeks earlier than expected, and for good reason. Audi introduced a slick look for the sports model, which last had a face lift in 2007. The all-aluminum two-door carries an eight-speed automatic transmission featuring sports mode and steering wheel paddle shifters. Yet the real “talker” of the restyled model is the streamlined driver’s cockpit and front passenger seating area. Instead of a center console jammed with buttons and supersized screen to handle audio, climate and high-tech functions, the TT relocated controls and image boxes so the driver can gather information while looking ahead instead of taking... “It’s everything you would have on a screen (but) in front of you,” said Greg Ulbrich, brand specialist at McDaniels Audi of Charleston. They include menu and “back” keys like those found on TV remotes and flip up buttons that control functions for icons that appear on the driver’s side viewing area such as radio stations.
