A reasonably new compact executive car, is likely to be a company car, more likely if it's a lower priced... It's even more likely if the vehicle is manufactured by BMW, Mercedes-Benz or Audi. When these compact executive models emerge onto the used market, things get a lot less predictable But a pre-owned Audi A4 could be worth a gamble. Audi tried to solve the appallingly small boot space in the MK1 A4 with the second generation car at the turn of the century. The lengthened wheelbase enabled a 36mm (1 3/8 inch) increase in rear leg room, and a 20-litre boost in boot capacity, making this car the most spacious in its class. The wheelbase change was promoted as making the A4 a driver's car as well as improving its cabin space. To help, Audi repositioned the front axle 154mm further forwards than in the MK2 model. It didn't make this Audi better through a set of twists than a BMW 3 Series but it does beat its Mercedes rival in this respect. Many models have done high mileages as company cars but that shouldn't necessarily put you off. At launch, this fourth generation A4 set a new standard and did more than any Audi compact.
