Johannesburg - Property mogul Sayed Hoosen Mia’s co-accused on fraud and corruption charges, Desmond Simamane, has approached the high court in a bid to have the charges against him dropped. Simamane had initially lodged an application in the high court in Joburg on Tuesday but it was erroneously placed before the court. The Star understands that Simamane has since secured a new date – February 4. Simamane approached the high court after he and Mia had made several failed representations to the NPA to drop the charges against them. On Friday, Mia and Simamane made a brief appearance in the Johannesburg Regional Court and their case was postponed to February 9. The two are hoping that Simamane will succeed in his application on February 4 because they are due to appear before... The department said it had suffered losses of more than R40m. The State alleges that Mia and Simamane’s corrupt relationship began in 2006 and continued for five years. The State alleges that in 2006, Simamane accepted a gift from Mia – a Nissan Hardbody bakkie valued at R156 400 – and obtained the use of a BMW 525 sedan valued at R566 250.
