SOUTH HUTCHINSON – With the slip of a foot, an 86-year-old man crashed into The Diner in South Hutchinson in the wee hours of Sunday morning. George Cortner of Hutchinson was parking his vehicle in the front entrance of The Diner, 507 N. Main St. , at 5 a. m. , said South Hutchinson Police Capt. A regular at The Diner, Cortner started to brake, but his foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas pedal, and he drove his 1997 Buick Park Avenue into the front of the restaurant, he told police. Restaurant owner Patty Edwards said there were about eight people inside the restaurant at the time, but no one was injured. “He hit a cinderblock wall and moved one gentleman back about 6 to 8 inches,” Edwards said. “None of us noticed it until it hit the building,” Edwards said. “I don’t even think he knew what happened,” Edwards said of Cortner.
