The Auto Sleuth: Alfa sets sights on Euro titans - Times Colonist

Well, they’re going to need more product: The CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles wants Alfa Romeo to rival BMW, Audi, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz in popularity among the well-heeled car buyers. For North Americans, the 2015 4C sports car is just the tip of Alfa’s spear. Up next will be the Giulia (say “Julia” out loud) that will launch in 2016 (one of eight planned new models that Alfa plans to release by 2018). The Giulia, a sporty little sedan, is aimed squarely at the BMW 3-Series and the performance M3 offshoot. The Giulia represents one heck of a moon shot for Alfa Romeo, but the recently announced Quadrifoglio (now there’s a mouthful) version will use a twin-turbocharged 3. 0-litre V-6 that produces 510 horsepower. Based on the F-Type sports car (hence the name), The Sleuth thinks that the concept version’s C-X17 handle actually sounds more exotic, but at least Jaguar’s designers are to a large degree staying true to the show car’s good looks. The base engine will be a 240-horsepower four-cylinder, while non-turbo and turbocharged 3. 0-litre V-6s that make 340 and 380 horsepower, respectively, will be available. A soon-to-be-completed attraction located just a few minutes from the Las Vegas, Nevada, strip will provide the opportunity to test-drive a variety of exotic German, Italian and North American high-performance cars on a Formula One-style road course.
