MHS seniors want legacy to end in title - Daily Republic

There may not have been a trio that has done more for making Mitchell tennis as successful as it is today. "There's 45 kids (or so) out there practicing tennis," Mitchell head coach Pat Moller said. Cersosimo, Brown and Lehr—all seniors—contributed to a run last season that saw Mitchell finish second at the state tournament. But finishing in second place won't be enough for Mitchell, which also took second in 1995, this year. "It's fun to come up here with this great group of guys and have that motivation and drive to get the first state title ever for our tennis team. In 2010, Cersosimo's first year on varsity, the Kernels finished 17th at state. Mitchell took ninth the following year, and in Moller's first year as head coach in 2012, the team finished in the same spot. In 2013, Mitchell placed at state, finishing fifth. "Mitchell tennis was never really a big thing before," Brown said. "I remember going to the state tournament freshman year and we were watching all these big guys play," he said. (But now), we're looking at the third day of the state tournament as something that we're obviously going to be. Source: www.mitchellrepublic.com
