Ten cars to watch at Gooding & Company's 2015 Scottsdale auction - Autoweek

Rare European machinery makes up the bulk of the lots for the auction house each year, and it seems that every new year records are set for a number of models. Like other auction houses Gooding & Co. will have not one but three Toyota FJ40 Land Cruisers on offer, reinforcing the high profile of this once-overlooked model. Last year the Gooding & Co. Scottsdale auction boasted a 94 percent sell-through rate and approximately $49. 4 million in total sales, with 13 cars breaking through the $1 million mark. The top sale last year was a 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Series 1 Cabriolet that brought $6. 16 million, followed closely by a 1997 McLaren F1 GTR Longtail that brought a model-record $5. 28 million. It doesn't seem all that long ago, but those times are well behind us. Of course, when paying today's prices it's nice to have a version with a little more top-end oomph, and collectors are paying a little extra for the 911 S models. The 911 S premiered for the 1967 model year with a compression boost, high-performance camshafts, enlarged valves, Weber IDS carburetors, a performance exhaust system, and an upgraded braking system. 140-mph cars, the 911 S models were tremendously quick for their day, but only 2,306 would be built for the 1967 model year, making it a bit of a rare model.
