Woman accused of stealing car during test drive - FOX 29

SAN ANTONIO- A Converse woman is out on bond after being arrested Monday for stealing a car off a dealership lot in June. The owner of the dealership says he brought Torrie Lowery outside, showed her a car and started it up so she could hear it. He says he then went inside to make a copy of her driver’s license, but when he came back outside, she and the car were gone. Converse police say 19-year-old Torrie Lowery went to the Auto Exchange on FM 78 in June. She’s accused of stealing a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Calvin, left a photo of his driver’s license with the dealership, took a car for a test drive, and never came back. "I don't know if it’s gutsy or if it’s just stupidity,” says, Rex Rheiner, Converse Police Department, Assistant Chief. Police tell Fox San Antonio, Calvin also stole a car from this lot, Bob Hall motors on August 6th. They say privately owned dealerships are a hot target for thefts. "These instances happen frequently all over the country, a normal dealership, a larger dealership would test drive the vehicle with them, the sales person would be there with them, but these instances they weren't. " Rex Rheiner, Converse Police Department, Assistant Chief. "They have minimal funds, they are not largely funded companies and so when somebody takes part of their inventory it does hurt,” says, Rex Rheiner, Converse Police Department, Assistant Chief.
