Fowler woman involved in fatal accident remembered as upbeat, positive - WatertownDailyTimes.com

DEKALB — A town of Fowler woman who was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-car collision is being remembered by coworkers as a friendly waitress who recently learned she was expecting her first baby. Mote, 22, was stopped in the northbound lane of Route 11 preparing to make a left-hand turn into the Silver Leaf Diner for her 3 p. m. work shift when her 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier was struck from behind, state police said. McCollum, 20, Gouverneur, was driving a 2006 Dodge Charger northbound when he “failed to observe” Ms. Mote’s vehicle and was unable to avoid striking it from behind, according to a state police news release. The speed limit is 55 mph on that stretch of Route 11, a heavily traveled highway which often has a heavy volume of high-speed traffic. Thayer, owner of the Silver Leaf Diner, said Ms. Mote’s vehicle ended up on her front lawn across the road from the diner. Thayer, DeKalb, said she was returning to the diner after buying groceries when she was rerouted off Route 11 and learned from state police that a collision had taken place. “Her car was right in front of my home, off the road,” Mrs. She said Ms. Mote had worked at the Silver Leaf Diner on and off for about two years and was also employed at Foxy’s Restaurant, Fisher’s Landing. That sentiment was echoed by Tami M. French, DeKalb, also a waitress at the Silver Leaf. Source: www.watertowndailytimes.com
