1992: Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe The big Suburban had been around since 1935 selling in small numbers to public utilities, university geology departments, and the Border Patrol — agencies that needed something rugged to move seven or eight people. But the 1992 Suburban was the first built from its onset to appeal to consumers even if they didn't need to trailer around a 32-foot cabin cruiser. This was also the first Suburban to spawn a slightly shorter four-door version of its self known as the Tahoe, a vehicle so sweet that with a few changes in trim it became the first Cadillac Escalade.
