Levanduski: Bodine relishes return to Watkins Glen - Elmira Star-Gazette

You are more likely to see Chemung native Todd Bodine behind a FOX Sports 1 microphone at a Camping World Truck Series race these days than behind the wheel of a NASCAR race car. The 51-year-old, two-time Truck Series champion has run only four NASCAR races in the past two years, both in the second-tier Xfinitry Series for car owner and friend Bobby Dotter. When Dotter doesn’t have a paid driver for his No. 90 Chevrolet Camaro, Bodine said he is there to fill in. That will the case for Saturday’s Zippo 200 at The Glen at Watkins Glen International. Bodine raced the No. 90 car April 18 at Bristol Motor Speedway, where he finished 28th in the Drive to Stop Diabetes 300. At Iowa Speedway on May 17, he finished 29th in the 3M 250. His last race at Watkins Glen was 11 years ago in the Sprint Cup... “I still remember it like the back of my hand,” said Bodine, who coached NASCAR K&N Pro Series East drivers Brennan Newberry Gray Gaulding during last year’s support race at Watkins Glen. Bodine is teaming with another friend and former car owner, Scott Welliver of Hector, who is helping to sponsor the car with Glenora Wine Cellars along with a few other people. “It’s kind of a hometown car this weekend and it’s nice to have everybody jump on board to support us. ”. Bodine is a 23-year NASCAR veteran with 15 victories in the Xfinity (then called Nationwide) Series. Source: www.stargazette.com
