EPD looks to trade in 3 used vehicles - The Edwardsville Intelligencer

"We have done this in the past couple of years, and we have budgeted up to $20,000 along with three vehicles that we'd like to trade-in," Keeven said. The department is seeking to trade-in a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria with 97,411 miles, a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria with over 120,000 miles and a 2009 Chevrolet Impala with 98,550 miles. Keeven said only the 2009 Impala is being used currently, but it is going to need $1,577. 86 for brakes, rotor, sway bar and air actuator. The 2003 Crown Victoria needs $911 worth of repairs, while the 2006 Crown Victoria is usable but the department tries not drive it. The odometer is not readable on the latter vehicle. By going the trade-ins route, as opposed to auction, Keeven said the department will get a better value for the vehicles. "These vehicles go onto auction — and they'll sit until next fall in 2016 when the auction will come — and we will get minimum amounts of money," Keeven said. "We are still in the process of getting three bids or three cars that are suitable from three different dealerships," Keeven said. "With our three trade-ins and $20,000 or less, I believe we can get a good deal. If we are within a couple thousand dollars of what's budgeted, I hope we are not so short-sighted to make good economic sense," Butts said. "Unless there is a sweetheart vehicle you know of that you have your sights set on, I would suggest we consider a new vehicle. Source: www.theintelligencer.com
