It has been more than three years since Toyota’s Scion brand had a new vehicle, but it hopes to make up for lost time when two new small cars go on sale Sept. The ??? 2016 Scion iA subcompact sedan is expected to be a top seller, aiming for annual sales in the high 30,000s or above. The iA is a strong competitor for subcompacts like the Chevrolet Sonic, Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, Nissan Versa and Toyota Yaris. Adding a six-speed automatic raises the price to $16,800. All iAs have a 106-hp 1. 5L four-cylinder engine. Toyota expects the iA to be the first new car for 75% of buyers. The iA shares its architecture and many features with the Mazda 2, a brand-new subcompact Mazda does not currently sell in the U. S. Mazda previously sold a subcompact 2 here that shared its basic engineering with the Ford Fiesta. The iA uses an all-new platform, engine and transmission that lean heavily on Mazda’s SkyActive engineering approach to reduce vehicles’ weight and fuel consumption.
