Driver arrested after fatal predawn accident on Interstate 5 - Sacramento Bee

A crash on Interstate 5 near Fruitridge Road early Saturday left one person dead and one man under arrest facing charges of driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter, authorities said. A California Highway Patrol report said a pickup truck veered off the southbound lanes south of Seamas Road about 3:20 a. m. “We did have one confirmed fatality,” said Sacramento Fire Department spokesman Roberto Padilla. The CHP report said 23-year-old Nicholas Lloyd Balestra of West Sacramento was driving a 2003 GMC Sonoma that veered off the road and struck a vehicle parked on the side of the interstate. Balestra was treated at UCDMC and then arrested on felony charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing injury or death, hit-and-run with injury and death, and DUI, according to online records for the Sacramento County jail. The crash was the latest in a series in the Sacramento area in the past week that included the death of 15-year-old Haylie Jordan , an El Camino Fundamental High School student in a crash Sunday on the Capital City Freeway near H Street, and the... Traffic Stop Leads To More Serious Trouble - WOWT

A Cass County sheriff’s deputy made the stop of a 2003 GMC Sonoma with Oklahoma license plates along the northbound lane of Highway 75 south of Murray. Sheriff William Brueggemann says the deputy was immediately contacted by the driver who was eventually identified as 39-year-old Daniel Paul Reese of Moore, Oklahoma. Reese advised the deputy he was looking for an antique shop to sell off some antiques but several things made the deputy suspicious. The Cassgram reports a passenger in the vehicle was later identified as 29-year-old Chelcy Pinson of Oklahoma City. A VIN check was run and it was learned that the vehicle was stolen out of Indiana and that both persons in the vehicle were wanted suspects. It was determined later that Reese had given a false date of birth too to avoid being found as a parole violator from the state of Oklahoma, said Brueggemann. Both occupants were taken into custody and booked for possession of a stolen vehicle, false reporting and for fictitious plates. The plates were from another GMC pickup and the sheriff’s department believes they were using those plates to help avoid being caught. Oklahoma residents arrested with stolen vehicle in Cass County - Fremont Tribune

MURRAY – Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies took two Oklahoma residents into custody Thursday morning for traveling on Highway 75 in a stolen vehicle. , resident Daniel Paul Reese, 39, and Oklahoma City resident Chelcy Pinson, 29, were arrested after a deputy stopped their pickup along Highway 75 at 11 a. m. The officer pulled over the 2003 GMC Sonoma near Murray after noticing it traveling... Reese told the deputy he was looking to sell some antiques in the pickup and offered to show them to authorities. The deputy viewed the items and told Reese they did not appear to be antiques. The deputies inspected the pickup and noticed its vehicle identification number was different from the VIN that appeared with records for the license plate number. They determined Reese and Pinson had used a fictitious license plate to conceal that the vehicle had been stolen. A subsequent background check of both Reese and Pinson revealed they were wanted for questioning in the vehicle theft case. The Oklahoma Department of Corrections lists a lengthy criminal history for Reese dating back to 1998. He was convicted of 12 charges in 2001 for three separate criminal incidents. He had been scheduled to begin serving a 10-year sentence in December 2014 for two counts of possession of stolen property and one count of possession of stolen. Source: fremonttribune.com
