Not many can say they still have the second car they’ve ever owned, but my 1976 Fiat 124 Spider has been with me for nearly 35 years. In 1980, when I was a junior at UCLA, my dad felt I needed something a bit more reliable than the 1968 Karmann Ghia I was driving. A lifelong car dealer, he brought home two used cars from his lot and let me choose between the ’76 Fiat or a mid-70s MG. Trailhead Bound Knowing we’d be attacking the rough stuff in a Renegade Trailhawk – that’s the model you’ll want if you plan on tackling serious terrain – we hopped into a mid-range Renegade Latitude for the hundred-something mile drive to Hollister. Our Renegade had a six-speed manual transmission, which meant there was a 160 horsepower 1. 4 liter turbocharged four under the hood. automatic Renegades get a naturally-aspirated 180 hp 2. 4 liter with a nine-speed transmission. Both powertrains can be had with front- or four-wheel-drive, though Trailhawks are limited to the 2. 4/auto combination. The idea of having two completely different engines for manual and auto versions seemed strange at first, but after a few miles our idle speculation was forgotten. It’s only if you demand hard acceleration at low revs (i. e. sixth gear at highway speeds) that the engine’s small displacement becomes apparent. It was when the roads turned curvy that the little Jeep really began to impress us. The Renegade bites into corners eagerly and while the steering may be a little numb, the suspension is anything but. Report: Plans for Mitsubishi-Nissan Midsize Sedan Hit Snag - Motor Trend

According to Automotive News , Mitsubishi informed dealers of the news at a NADA franchise meeting Sunday. Don Swearingen, executive vice president of Mitsubishi Motors North America, declined to say whether the holdup is temporary or indefinite, although he noted “all options are still open” in regards to the new D-segment offering. But a lack of a midsize sedan hasn’t slowed down Mitsubishi, which saw its U. S. sales grow 25 percent last year thanks to strong performances from the Outlander Sport and newcomer Mirage. This year, expect a redesigned Outlander in July and the 2016-model Lancer and Outlander Sport. For 2016, look for a new Mirage, Mirage sedan, and plug-in hybrid version of the Outlander. I think Mitsubishi focused on the wrong segments. , and the Japanese Government (like the South Korean's when they HAD to allow Daewoo Motors to be "brought back" into GM's [the one who instigated them to build cars in the first place, in the '70s] fold) will have to let one or more marques go... They can't be so fools to think all vehicle manufacturing in Japan can be made only by local-owned companies forever or block foreign marques from "playing fair" in JDM (it's the consumer who tells the Government what to do in a capitalist.
