History Channel Host Restores American Classics - PickupTrucks.com

Ford Trucks are almost godlike anymore. Ford took hundreds of millions of taxpayer money recently. Ford attended and followed the rules for the bailout companies,as Ford thought in 1 year they may need to go bankrupt, but fortunately for Ford they sold off Volvo to the Chinese and Land rover to the Indians and Jaguar was sold off and the over... Remember Ford just about went bankrupt in the early 1980's,for the second time Ford squeaked by,next time wont be so lucky. Ford still is bleeding for cash,as they sold their stakes in Mazda, ever wonder why Ford isnt designing new models in America, its only bringing over import Fords to the market. Fiesta/Festiva is a Euro Ford as is Focus as is Transit as is the new Ford replacement Econoline is a import,as is the Ford Taurus is a Volvo with Ford dressing,Ford really only has the Mustang and Full size trucks, rest are import Ford's. If Ford gets in trouble now, they are done,no loans for them. Source: news.pickuptrucks.com

Video Walk-around: 2013 Ram 2500 HD CNG - PickupTrucks.com

Companies have their own CNG stations to fill their trucks. The infastructure for CNG stations is coming, but is is a slow process and their is no real governement help. States like Oklahoma, California and New York lead the nation in CNG for public consumption. Everyone that I talk to about this says that home gas will not be affected by a price increase. You would see the standard taxes like with gasoline. Right now NG stations in Oklahoma are around 1. 39 per gallon and I think that is with taxes. Even it if went up, lets say 1. 00 due to taxes and consumption, it is a better bet than gasoline which is heading toward $5. Now you could get a home filling station that works off your natural gas line into your house which in some cases is... This all sounds good but to expand NG use there'd need to be expanded taxes. NG is cheap because its hardly being used. Once in heavy use, NG prices would closely track and match gasoline. The fuel mileage is paultry at 360 miles at 18gals (equiv) CNG and 8gals of gasoline. Looks like CNG gallon equivalency is used to match 1 gallon of gasoline energy content. Source: news.pickuptrucks.com

Limo Meets Labor: 1974 IH Travelette - PickupTrucks.com

In early 1974, an oil executive in Oklahoma ordered a new pickup — that’s right, a pickup, not a luxury car. You don’t show up to the oil fields in a limo if you want to command respect from roughnecks, but oil execs sometimes needed to carry VIPs. Showing up to an oil rig in a limo-long, two-tone IH 200 series pickup is a base hit with the roughneck crowd. And since it’s powered by IH’s biggest light-truck V-8, the 392-cubic-inch four-barrel with factory dual exhausts likely gets you to third base. In early 1974, IH trucks were on the way up. The new D-Series pickups that debuted in 1969 were light-years ahead of the previous generation for technical features and the available comfort and convenience features. IH fell far behind the Big Three in bringing its trucks up the comfort-option food chain. The company had long built some of the toughest light trucks available, but they were farmers’ trucks, workman’s trucks — trucks not well-suited to the American pickups’ growing role as the ordinary family’s recreation vehicle (the second or third... Visibility was another reason for IH’s single-digit light-truck market share. Farmers and commercial people knew where to find an IH truck, but John Q. Public’s usual reply was, “International what. Borg Warner T19(shown without extension housing)

Another Granny-Gear transmission. These transmissions were installed in many 1965-1985 Ford pickups (as well as Jeeps and IH Scouts) as a successor to the T98. Ford used three different versions of this transmission, which is equipped with a 28-spline output shaft. Both the case and top cover are cast iron, with the top cover being secured with 6 bolts. First gear and reverse are not synchronized. It's replacement, the T-19, was used in '74-'88 Ford pickups and some IH trucks and is identical in appearance except has a 5.11:1 first gear ratio which is synchronized.

The T18 & T19 has a 1-1/16" diameter, ten-spline input shaft that has a stickout of 6-1/2" from the front face of the transmission. The pilot tip of the transmission measures .668". The front bearing retainer flange measures 4.850" and the bearing retainer tube is 1.432" in diameter. The front bolt pattern is the symmetrical Ford "butterfly" pattern; 8-1/2" wide by 6-5/16" tall. The input shaft length is 6-1/2". Checking these dimensions will verify that the transmission is a 1966 or newer model, precluding it from being the T98. The transmission can also be identified by its casting numbers cast into the driver's side of the case. T18s have casting number "13-01" and T19s have casting number "13-09". Case length is 11.875". Unlike the  NP435, the PTO port is on the driver's side.

From 1966 until 1978, many T18s used a T98 shifter assembly. 1979-newer T18s used a three-fork shift cover assembly that shifts reverse gear directly. Because of this, reverse location is on the opposite side of neutral than the earlier version (‘66 to ‘78). Earlier versions reverse gears shifts over and up - later versions shift over and down.
